Head Gardener & her Apprentice, Waterperry Gardens

Recently I visited my favourite gardens on a beautiful sunny morning to photograph the lovely Pat & her apprentice Ailsa. Ailsa has been working under Pat’s tutelage in the gardens & on the famous & very beautiful herbaceous border at Waterperry Gardens. Ailsa was moving on to the celebrated gardens at Kew for her 3 year diploma & I thought it would be nice to capture some images of the Head Gardener & her apprentice for posterity. Here are a few of my favourite images.

Garden Photography Shoot with James Wong

Recently I was engaged to photograph the well-known gardener James Wong for his role as an ambassador for the garden tool company Fiskars. It was a beautiful late August morning as my assistant; Kiti & I made our way to a private garden in Buckinghamshire. We arrived & checked our locations for the days shoot; it was a lovely garden which offered us some great variety for the shots of James.

James arrived & we spent the day on several different set ups to show the function & form of the individual tools. James is passionate about botany & horticulture so is a perfect choice for the face of Fiskars. He was fantastic & was a complete pro, very patient & always with a smile on his face.

It was a beautiful day for garden photography, the day before had been grey with low cloud so it was a relief to wake up to a sunny morning. The clients were looking for sunny summer images so I also had a lighting set up & flash to achieve the summer glow. The images are to be used on their website & on large scale shows & events so keep your eyes peeled.

I am available for commissions. If you are planning a shoot & would like to talk through some ideas we would love to hear from you.

Garden Photography Award

Pleased to be working with the gardeners at Le Manoir, in Oxfordshire for the next 12 month and shooting the changing gardens through the seasons. On my first visit I took this image of some cherry blossom which scooped 3rd place in the Professional Garden Photographers Association monthly competition last month.

Keep posted for some more images from Le Manoir throughout the year!

Wisteria Hysteria

A client called me one afternoon to tell me the wisteria outside his workshop was looking its best. It took me just 15 minutes to get to his workshop and in that time someone had parked right outside the workshop infront of the wisteria. We tried a few addresses on the road to see if we could ask them to move their car for a few minutes but couldn’t track them down. We think they parked there and caught a bus into Oxford for the afternoon! Still on a positive note perhaps it adds to the image showing the length and sheer size of this wisteria! Allegedly this is the oldest wisteria in Oxfordshire.

Orchids in the Chilterns

I am lucky to have a client with wildflower meadows, woodland and SSSI areas in the Chilterns. This sumer he asked me to record the wild orchids that grow on his land.

Here are a few of my favourite images. These are all tiny flower heads so a macro lens and tripod are essential for the job and the hope of as little wind as possible due to working with such slow shutter speeds!
